As part of the Above the Noise: 15 Stories From Bradford exhibition we’re calling for films that challenge inequality and are pushing for social and political change.

In Above the Noise we’ve collaborated with people who live and work in the district to explore how they make and shape Bradford using media technologies.

15 different stories are currently inviting visitors to explore the different ways communities in Bradford creatively make their own worlds, bypass the mainstream media by developing alternative methods of distributing news and culture, and confront issues head on in order to make political and social change.

Your film will be shown in the ‘Confront’ section of the gallery – so we’re looking for films that are seeking to make change. This is how the ‘Confront’ section is introduced:

Confront: Make change
Don’t like something? Then change it.

Activists in Bradford have challenged inequality in traditional power structures and in the way different Bradford communities are represented. Using different kinds of self-publishing technologies – poster printing, zine publication, film and seeking to reshape the mainstream media narrative – Bradfordians have pushed for social and political change.

We kicked off the Bradford film exhibit with Peaceophobia! a film by Speaker’s Corner made with Common Wealth, and now would like to add more films!

Your film:
• Needs to already exist, we don’t have funding to support new work.
• Should be made by a filmmaker/s with a Bradford connection or be about Bradford.
• Will raise social and political questions in some way.

The call is rolling – as we’ll add films as we go along – but with a last deadline of 1st June. The exhibition closes on 19 June 2019.

If you have a film, contact Julia Ankenbrand on: Julia.Ankenbrand@scienceandmediamuseum.org.uk
